Bejeezus issue 11
Posted by Madmin @ 8:19 PM July 8, 2008
Hillary Harrison started Bejeezus in 1999, it existed for eight issues as an irregularly published cut & paste fanzine. Recently Bejeezus upped the ante to become a full color arts & culture magazine. A huge part of that transition has been the art direction of Jason Pierce aka Mperfect. Issue 11 hits the streets on July 25th. Jason has been kind enough to share a little "sneak-peek" here.

Best of luck, and remember not to f*&ck with the Jesus.

VIA Studio launches robertrich.com
Posted by Jadmin @ 3:34 PM July 3, 2008
OK then... longtime poster, first time admin. As my first post, unfortunately it's a show off piece by my own firm, VIA Studio. Up for your critical eyebones is a site that we finished a couple months ago, robertrich.com.
Robert Rich is a musician primarily focused in the realms of ambient electronic. He's released over 30 albums in the course of the last 20 years, and is extremely well regarded in his genre. He has recorded for film and television, and as an added bonus makes his own wine, which we've had the honor of tasting on multiple occasions. Robert also lives very close to the Google campus in Mountain View, CA, so we've got a spy for us on what's going on out west.
This site was quite a fun project for us, because not only did it allow us to stretch out creatively for a client, it's also a musician that we adore here at the office. This project encompassed creative design, an audio player, custom discography database, a little search engine optimization, and a whole lotta love.
By the way, my name's Jason. Pleased to meet you. I'm a big fan of the city and honored to be a part of a community that's trying to make design a part of the dialogue here.
Looking at the weather has never been so exciting. If you haven't seen the commercial yet, here is a glimpse of the new WLKY weather page.

Get your favorite info at the top and configure to your liking. Very similar to iGoogle, which I am a pretty big fan of. The nice thing about Google is your information remains clean. I am not quite sure that is achieved here. Also not quite sure if this is an in house project over at WLKY or if it was outsourced. We will gladly post the info if you know.
Check out this great post on the latest version of the Walmart logo.
Brand New: Less Hyphen, More Burst for Walmart
We have plenty of Walmarts, so it only made sense to show this once I heard the news. The post contains the progression of the Walmart logo over the years, and wow - they've had some interesting styles.
Hello all. Well, we haven't had too much submitted to us in the last month. Either everybody is enjoying their summers and are too busy, or there is not anything to post. Well, don't fret. We've come up with a solution to keep things moving on Create Louisville. If there is not enough work coming out of our great city to post, we'll go outside of the city and look for inspiration. That is the focus of the new series of posts we plan on adding. Sites, campaigns, photography, and more that inspires the creative in us.
The first piece of this ongoing series is a site that was just released by the UFC to promote an upcoming event in Vegas.
http://84.ufc.com/
It was created by Red Interactive (which also has a pretty amazing site). One of the coolest interactive firms we have right now in the country. Check it out, get inspired, and enjoy. It really shows how creative we can get in the Flash environment - pretty exciting stuff.
Another installment to The Five0Two Campaign. Jeral Tidwell is a huge contributor to the artistic scene here in Louisville, and continues to provide great work to help promote the city.
You can check out a larger version of the piece here.
If you would like to see more of Jeral's work, go to his site at www.HumanTree.com.
Matt Dobson just sent us his new online portfolio of work. You can take a look at his new site here:
www.mattdobson.com
We would have included something about him here, but the site didn't have an 'about me' page to steal from. I guess he will just have to remain a mystery. Keep up the great work.
Design at the Zoo
Posted by T_Admin @ 1:19 PM May 26, 2008
This weekend, while at the Louisville Zoo, the tiger exhibit caught my eye.
It is currently under reconstruction, but hanging outside was this piece. A bold, but interesting use of design to display what could have been another "run-of-the-mill" sign.

The advertising industry of Louisville is probably a tad bit concerned with the recent news of GE's plan to auction off it's appliance division. Will it stay or will it go? Nobody is certain yet, but this decision could have quite the effect on some big local accounts.
Paul Coomes, a University of Louisville economist, said the impact of GE's appliance business extends well beyond Appliance Park. Factoring in distribution companies and other regional business, Coomes estimates that about 10,000 are linked to the business.Read the full article from the Courier Journal here.
In a city striving to improve, and pull in big business, this would be a tough loss.
Let's hope things work out.
What effect do you think this will have on the local advertising industry? We
would like to hear your thoughts.
