Ad Fed | Centennial Logo
Posted by T_Admin @ 9:27 AM May 14, 2008
The Advertising Federation of Louisville has created a new logo in honor of the organization's centennial.
The new logo was designed by AdFed member Robert Hatfield, president and creative director of Breakout Creative.
AdFed will use the new logo in combination with its current logo throughout 2008.

Wow. I thought Ad Fed's logo couldn't get any worse. Now I know that is not true. Is this even a logo?
First off, when that font style was hip in '99 / '00 it still didn't look that good. (It's 2008, BTW).
Second, the "cutesy" idea of putting the information inside of a "100" is so expected and lame, I want to puke.
Third, I totally disagree with everything DoomGuppy said (*) and he / she has lost serious credit in my eyes.
Its a bit embarrassing that the Louisville Ad Fed even let this happen.

Based on Loki's input, I have to correct mine.

And again, the logo does its job -- it says "100" in a way that looks forwards. I disagree about the font -- it has to be a non-serif and it has to be readable. * The AdFed is probably the least-qualified group in town to talk about tasteful communication, so the fact that he was able to do anything good earns him extra points.

I'm probably right in the middle there between Doom and Loki. I think the choice of font is out of place and distracting, but other than that, it's held together well as a 'mark'... I don't think I'd call it a logo though.* :-P

Alright commenters, we had to call the forces in. Please read the rules before you post.
The coloring is nice, but emphasizing the zeros doesn't seem like the best way to go... I've like a lot of breakout's work...maybe this is just my issue with centinnel logos in general.
Hello all, thanks for the feedback. I agree, as the designer, my choice would've been to leave the elements inside the logo out but the club wanted them left in. Such is life.
The "100" overall design concept is meant to convey the progression of time from the "1" through the second "0" and then the final "0". Also the the screened progression of colors supports that premise.
As for the font selection...get over yourselves...it works fine. Opinions about fonts are as numerous as fonts. I take them with a grain of salt (if that).
Have a nice day.

I hate to say it, but I sorta like it. It feels forward-looking and expansive and it incorporates a lot of information aesthetically well. The colors are balanced and work well together, and the fonts all cooperate -- there's some tension, but it holds the mark together rather than making it feel awkward.
