WTF Moment | Sitar

Sitar Posted by T_Admin @ 9:31 AM April 25, 2008

I think being a designer is a blessing and a curse.  While I'm thankful that I get to create for a living, I also can't walk into a restaurant without noting what font was used on the menu.  Or look through a magazine without spending more time looking at the ads than reading the articles.

I also have these moments that I call "WTF Moments."  This is when I am in the regular hub-bub of life and I come across something that just plain slaps me in the face as a designer.  And all I can think is, "WTF."

As I was driving down Bardstown Rd. in the Highlands, I couldn't help but notice that a new Indian place, Sitar, had opened.  I also couldn't help but notice their sign.....WTF!?

As you folks go through your day, I know you have these moments as well.  When you do, grab a cell phone or a camera and snap a photo.  Then send us your WTF moments and we'll post them here.

The real WTF at Sitar is the gigantic vinyl lettering on the window that says LUNCH BUFFET $6.99 and then taped to the window handwritten on a piece of letter size paper it says "Saturday and Sundays $7.99", seriously WTF.

On a positive note the buffet is solid and vegetarian friendly.

I think it might only be a temporary sign until the real one gets shipped over from India.

Sounds good actually. If Robin Garr, or some other food friendly site speaks highly of it, I'm probably going to give it a try. I'm not too concerned with design styles of a restaurant, as I am the letter grade taped on the window. Especially buffet style.

There's a difference between bad design and a lack of design. This is the latter, so it's hard to criticize it with any heart. If an agency or someone pretending to be a designer / communicator took money to do this, they / she / he / it ought to be made to eat a chicken phal without nan.

I'd love to try this place, but I'm afraid my allegiance to Kashmir will be challenged. :(

I walked up there on Friday evening and it was aight. All the local Indian restaurants suck on atmosphere / interior design, but this one wasn't too bad. The service was less belligerent than Kashmir and the cooking marginally better — and the wine didn't come out of a refrigerated five-day-old corked bottle. All in all, it's probably slightly better than all the others around town, but then the bar's really low here.
